Washington State Department of Ecology Approves NW Innovation Works Kalama Shoreline Conditional Use Permit
June 8, 2017 -- NW Innovation Works is grateful for the Washington State Department of Ecology’s decision to approve the Shoreline Conditional Use Permit for our Kalama facility.
This permit is the result of a long and comprehensive public process through which the community and other stakeholders participated in submitting comments and suggestions regarding the conditions under which NW Innovation Works can build and operate its facility.
The permit conditions set strict new standards for greenhouse gas (GHG) reductions as outlined in the Washington State Clean Air Rule applied through the Shoreline Conditional Use Permit.
GHG emissions are a global issue. While we evaluate the stringent conditions added to the permit, we will continue to lead the industry by creating and implementing innovative clean technologies that meet the global demand for methanol in an environmentally responsible way.
Our investment in the Kalama facility will benefit our local, state, and national economies while protecting the Columbia River and contributing to a significant net reduction in GHG emissions by replacing coal methanol with Ultra-Low-Emission gas methanol.
We look forward to continuing to work with regulators and stakeholders to meet Washington State’s high environmental standards.
